FAQs - Filing & the File Cabinet

File cabinet quotas, file sharing, and storage

  1. Is there a size limit on the files that I can upload?
Each file you store in your Ecofiling account can be up to 2Gb. There is no limit on the actual number of files you can upload, providing they all fit within your file size quota. Each account comes with 1Gb of storage space per user and you can send/receive 2.5Gb of data per user. That means if you have 30 users on your Ecofiling account, you can store 30Gb worth of information and upload/download 75Gb of data (which is a lot!). Remember, the larger the file, the longer it will take to upload.
  2. Can I have different versions of the same file in the filing cabinet?
Sometimes companies have to stock-take or audit their company documents, which means that different versions of the same file will need to be kept on hand. Because Ecofiling uses a system that we call "versioning," all the different versions of one document are kept, so you can go back and check over the different versions if you need to. Of course, you can prevent access to this feature by allowing only the account administrator to retrieve old versions of files.
  3. Why does it take so long to upload a file?
Sometimes, users can experience slow upload times for really large files (more than 50Mb). Our servers can handle extremely fast uploads, so if you find that it's taking a long time to upload your file, they delay could be coming from your ISP's end. Remember - most ISPs offer much faster download speeds than they do upload speeds, so where it might take a minute to download a 100Mb file, it could take 15 minutes to upload the same file. Ecofiling is designed to maximize your bandwidth capacity to get the file uploaded as quickly as possible. You can continue to use your computer while the file is uploading.
  4. How do I delete a file?
Not all users can delete files. Your account administrator decides who has permission to delete files from the filing cabinet. You should contact your account administrator to address the issue.
  5. How much space does my account have?
Each Ecofiling account comes with 1Gb of storage space for each user. This space can be shared between users. The account administrator can see how much of your quota remains in their "Preferences" tab.
  6. I've run out of space. What can I do?
The administrator/account owner can upgrade the account at any time to incorporate more space. The easiest way to do this is to simply add more users and not allocate them to anybody. That way, you're getting 1Gb of extra storage space per user you sign up.
